项目摘要

本研究は、イタリア南部カンパニア地方の農地契約文書を対象に、文書形式と契約内容の分析を通して、当事者双方の文書実践の諸側面を明らかにすることを目的としている。2022年度は前年度に引き続きビザンツ的伝統のもとにあるアマルフィ地方に伝来する農地契約文書を対象とする研究を実施した。その際、前年度に検討対象とした紀元1200年までの文書約60点に加え、概要のみの残る史料を含む文書約40点、計約100点を対象に、上記の問題に取り組んだ。そこでは、起伏豊かなアマルフィ地方の独自性に留意するとともに、都市と後背地たる農村部の関係に注目した。その結果、以下の結論が得られた。10・11世紀には都市に拠点を有する聖俗領主や都市民に加え、農村住民も程度の差こそあれ葡萄畑や栗林の経営を通して海上商業に参加していた。しかし12世紀、とりわけノルマン人によるアマルフィ征服以降、商業活動が聖俗領主層や都市民に限定され、農村住民が徐々に山地の自給自足的な農業の世界に閉じ込められていく。そのことは、小麦をはじめとする穀物栽培に適さない起伏豊かな地形に特徴づけられるアマルフィ地方において、小麦が12世紀アマルフィ農村住民の手に届きにくくなり、栗が小麦の代替食と化していたという事実が、領主・農民間の契約交渉過程で後から加筆された箇所の分析から浮かび上がってきたことからも裏付けられる。なお、ビザンツ史研究の第一人者ジュディス・へリン著、井上浩一訳『ラヴェンナ』（白水社、2022年）の新刊紹介・書評を発表した。中世初期イタリアはビザンツ領域とランゴバルド（カロリング）領域から構成されるが、ビザンツ領イタリアの中心都市であったラヴェンナの歴史に関する研究は、ビザンツ領とランゴバルド領の比較研究を行う本課題にとっても有意義である。
