本研究では、計画当初は以下の祭礼の調査を予定していた。具体的には、南砺市福野の「福野夜高祭」、東京都府中市の「くらやみ祭り」、砺波市の「となみ夜高まつり」、秋田県仙北市角館の「角館の祭り」、北海道札幌市の「YOSAKOIソーラン祭り」、秋田県秋田市の「土崎神明社の曳山まつり」、青森県八戸市の「八戸三社大祭」、青森県青森市の「青森ねぶた祭」、大阪府岸和田市の「岸和田のだんじり」である。しかし新型コロナウイルス感染症が流行したため、調査を予定した祭礼がすべて、令和２年度、３年度の２年にわたり中止になった。このため、予定した研究テーマに基づく調査は実施できなかった。しかし、祭礼が中止に至る過程における議論や、中止に対する評価、祭礼に代わる代替行事の実施など、研究を推進する上で大変貴重な事象が各地で見られた。このため令和３年度は、調査を予定していた祭礼の中止をめぐる事象についての情報収集に務めた。令和４年度はようやく祭礼が復活し始めたため、祭礼がコロナ禍を脱しつつある状況でいかに開催されるか、それぞれの祭礼について、復活の経緯を調査した。祭礼の開催時期により実施状況は異なり、また状況はいまだ流動的であるため、今回の調査では実施内容を記録することに重点を置き、分析を加えるには至っていないが、こうした知見の蓄積は、今後、「コロナ以前」「コロナ以後」の比較を明確にする意味でも重要であると考えている。
