南ドイツ・バイエルンの貴族ヴィッテルスバッハ家の最初期の城塞シャイアン（史料初出は1070年代）の周囲に位置する支配権的諸権利の総体を城塞支配権、つまりフランス史の所謂シャテルニーとして把握しうることを究明する研究を行なった。当初この家系はこの城塞に因みシャイアン伯と名乗ったが、これはこの伯が支配権をこの城塞に集中化しこの城塞を基準として編成し始めたことを意味する。また一方で城塞が支配権形成の中核をなしたのに対し、城塞の周囲に位置する支配権は「付属物」と考えられた。「付属物」を指す史料の用語は一般に、ラテン語でattinentia、appertinentia等である。シャイアン城塞の付属物を示す史料の用語はattinentiaである。中世ラテン語辞典によると、これらの用語の語義は城主の罰令権力（バン権力Banngewalt）が行使される領域、つまり城主の支配領域、城塞支配権＝シャテルニーである。次にシャイアン伯が城塞の周囲で保持した支配権、換言すれば「付属物」の具体的内容を究明することに努めた。伯は1077年バイリッシュツェル、1085年フィッシュバッハウ、1104年アイゼンホーフェンに家修道院を建立し、最後に1119年本拠城塞シャイアンを修道院に転換する形で家修道院シャイアンを建立した。伯は家修道院建立の度毎に家系の所領を寄進したために、寄進に関する史料を研究すると同時に、他方でこの家系はいかなる教会修道院のフォークトVogt（代理人）を務めフォークタイVogtei（フォークトの職権）特に典型的な罰令権力（その代表は裁判権）を行使したのかを研究した。従来日本とドイツの法制史・歴史学において城塞支配権は研究上の空隙として残されてきた。本研究は従来殆ど未開拓な草創期の貴族城塞の内部構造を究明することを通じて、この空隙を埋めようと試みる貴重な研究と評価される。
