Contribution of selected plant growth promoting rhizobacteria to maize phosphorus nutrition as influenced by organic matter management

A sustainable management of the soil organic matter is one of the most important factors for increasing the productivity in crop husbandry. Organic fertilization influences chemical, physical and biological soil properties, as well as the role of microorganisms (MOs) in the soil nutrient cycles. The overall objective of this study is to investigate qualitatively and quantitatively the effect of PGPR to maize P nutrition as influenced by organic fertilization. For this aim it is planned to apply the PGPR strains of Enterobacter radicincitans and Pseudomanas fluorescens to a field experiment with different long-term organic fertilizer treatments (without, cattle manure and biowaste compost). Differences in soil P fractions, enzyme activities relevant for soil P cycle, and plant P uptake will be monitored as well as the interactions of PGPR and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) colonisation of maize roots. Furthermore, the contribution of PGPR to the plant available P from the organic source myo-inositol hexaphosphate without any application of additional organic C and N will be investigated. General conclusions for the successful application of PGPR should be derived from the results as a significant support for an efficient P use in crop husbandry.
