がんサバイバーが健康を取り戻し、生活を送っていくためには、体力の維持が欠かせない。この視点から、がん患者においてもリハビリテーションが推奨されている。しかし、がん患者の術後の身体活動や体力の向上とQOLの向上は、不明な点が多い。このため、胃切除術後患者のQOL向上には、その回復過程を明らかにすること、医療施設内の職種間連携だけでなく、地域社会にある運動の専門研究機関や健康増進施設における専門的な知や施設の連携が求め、研究に着手してきた。本研究の核心をなす学術的「問い」は、胃切除術を受けた患者の体力は、手術後の経過と共に回復するが、その回復の度合いは手術後の身体活動の多寡に関連すると仮定し、胃切除術後患者の手術後の身体活動量と体力回復の関係を明らかにすることである。この仮説については、これまで質問紙における調査にてその関連性を見出している状況である。そこで本研究では、胃切除術後患者の身体侵襲回復過程において、医学・看護学・理学・体育学の各分野の専門家からの意見を集中・検討し、作成した運動プログラムを導入し、体力回復と身体活動状況との関連を実測値における測定データをもとに明らかにし、ひいては胃切除術後患者が負担なく続けることができる体力回復に有用な運動プログラムを確立することである。これまで、プログラム作成にあたってきたが、COVID19の感染状況に伴い、医療施設における周手術期にある対象者の獲得が難しい状況があった。このため、研究方法の段階から検討し、地域社会で生活を回復している対象者に直接経過を聞き、患者自身の発言から手術後の体力状況や対処方法を明らかにしていこうと考えている。
