一般病棟の周術期小児患者と家族への看護実践に関する特殊性と支援ニーズについて、看護師262名の質問紙調査により明らかにした。対象は、日本小児外科学会による指導医・専門医のいる 147 病院で一般病棟に勤務し、周術期小児の看護に携わる看護師とした。協力が得られた46病院のうち45病院（97.8％）が日本小児外科学会の認定施設であった。周術期小児患者と家族に携わる一般病棟の看護師は、安全・安静に対する細心の注意、プレパレーションを含む発達段階に合わせた説明・情報提供、家族の心理面への関わりの順に、に特殊性を感じていた。支援ニーズでは、卒後・現任教育における小児看護全般に関する教育の充実・拡大、卒後・現任教育における周術期小児の看護に関する教育の充実・拡大、小児看護専門看護師や家族支援専門看護師等の周術期小児の看護に関わる専門家による支援の順に、充実・拡大を求めていた。看護師は、周術期小児への実践の特殊性・支援ニーズともに家族を含めた小児という対象特性を意識し、実践していたといえる。自由記述からは、周術期小児の看護実践の課題には【小児期の特性に合わせた周術期看護のための教育体制の強化】【円滑な周術期の小児医療のためのチーム連携の充実】が抽出された。また、看護師の4割が自施設に病院のこども憲章がないと回答していたことから、周術期小児の権利とそのチーム医療を保障するための施設全体での取り組みが必要である。
