项目摘要

本研究では、エチオピア北部、ティグライ州メケレ市の教会において聖水を治療目的に使用する人々を対象に、次の3点［1．聖水を求める人々の特性、2．聖水を求める人々の健康に関する生活の質（身体的健康、精神的健康）、精神疾患の程度の評価、3．聖水にたどり着くまでの治療行動と聖水治療を求める理由］を明らかにすることを目的とする。データ解析からは、次の結果が得られた。健康関連QOLのうち、身体的健康には、年齢、聖地での滞在期間、教育レベル、健康上の理由による聖水摂取が有意に関連し、精神的健康には、治療の第一選択が宗教的ケア、女性、婚姻状態、健康上の理由による聖水摂取が有意に関連していた。さらに、多変量解析では、聖地滞在が長いほど身体的健康度が高く、初等教育修了者、高齢者は身体的健康度が有意に低かった。一方、中年層、公共交通機関利用者、宗教的ケアを第一の治療と選択した者の精神的健康度が有意に高い、という結果が得られた。本年度は、上述の調査結果を中心とした内容をまとめ、2022年アメリカ人類学会年次大会に対面で参加し、「Navigating Illness, Health, and Spiritual and Religious Expertise」というセッションで発表した。同じセッションで発表した２名から今後の分析に関する有益な示唆が得られた。折しも、この学会開催直前に、調査地ティグライ州において停戦が合意された。現地共同研究者と連絡が取れるようになり、国際学術誌への投稿原稿の準備を継続して進めている。なお、この原稿準備作業には、パートタイムで雇用した研究協力員が、文献整理にあたった。
