项目摘要

前年度から引き続き、（１）注意力をめぐる1900年前後の心理学言説に関する整理を進めるとともに、（２）上記の整理を反映した、個別作家研究（ヴァージニア・ウルフ、フォード・マドックス・フォードなど）を進展させるという、2つを軸に研究を進めた。（１）については、Carolin Duttlinger (2022) による、ドイツの注意言説を扱う研究書が出版され、英国を扱う本研究にとっても大きな参照項となった。とくに、後述のヴァージニア・ウルフ『船出』を扱った論考では、心理学言説の歴史性を記述するための大きな助けとなった。さらに個別的トピックとしては、『船出』論考を執筆するなかで、分割的注意（divided attention）に関する研究や、ジェンダーと注意力の程度を論じる心理学言説などを集中的に収集した。（２）については、V・ウルフ『船出』に関する論考を国内の雑誌に投稿した（現在、査読中）。本作については、草稿研究の成果を参照するなど、追加的な資料収集も行っている。最後に、当初の予定にはなかったが、日本英文学会関東支部第22回大会にて、シンポジウム「亡霊文学を見つめ直す」を企画することとなった。扱うトピックは亡霊文学および亡霊論的転換（the spectral turn）と呼ばれる研究のトレンドであり、一見したところ、本研究とのつながりが見えないが、注意力の高まった状態は、たとえば、催眠やトランスといった状態として、亡霊文学に頻出するものであり、注意力を社会的規範と見なす（１）で整理した枠組みの再考を迫る契機、あるいは、本研究を発展させる方向性の一つになり得るものといえる。
