本研究は、3カ月を1クールとし、1クールの中で調査・分析・追加調査のサイクルを行ない、2クールおきに研究成果を勉強会等で発表する計画であった。研究対象は方言の実際の発話の疑問文の文末イントネーションである。調査のターゲットが実際の発話における文の音調であることから、本来は対面調査が望ましいと考えている。しかし、調査の形式が、対面で質問票記載の例文を読み上げていただくという内容であるため、近年の新型コロナ感染拡大により対面調査・臨地調査を控えていた。こうした前年度までの状況に鑑み、調査・データ収集のあり方を変更せざるを得なかった。これに代わる手段として、オンラインミーティングのレコーディング機能の活用したり、あるいは既存の国立国語研究所の音声資料や大規模音声コーパスを参照するなどの方策を本年度は模索した。調査協力者がオンラインミーティングに不慣れなことと研究代表者のサポートが及ばなかったこと、新たな調査協力関係の開拓ができていないことから、オンライン調査は実施できていない。そのため、既存のデータベースを当該年度は主に活用した。現在研究代表者がアクセスできるデータベース、コーパスは文字列検索のみに対応している。具体的には、文字列検索で疑問文とそれに紐づけられた音声データを入手し分析対象としている。現在は、疑問を表す疑問文と形式的な疑問文（反語文・感嘆文など）との形態的・統語的な峻別の効率化を目指している。学会発表・成果発表などは実現できておらず、発信面において計画より遅れている。
