移動様態動詞(e.g. float, roll, bounce)について研究している。この動詞類は(1)のように主動詞として具現化する場合と、(2)のように付加詞節として具現化し、主動詞にはmoveのような動詞が現れる場合がある。(1)The boat floated into the cave. (2) The boat moved into the cave, floating.Folli and Harley(2019)では、どちらの場合も移動の様態を表すfloatのような動詞語根は動詞句の修飾語として解釈されると議論しているが、本研究では、この考えが妥当であることを、修飾語の積み重ねのデータを用いて明らかにした。例えば(1)のような移動様態動詞が主動詞として具現化している文において、意味的に矛盾しない、異なる様態語根を積み重ねることができることや、また意味的に相容れない様態語根を積み重ねると意味的に矛盾することを示した。また(2)の文において、主動詞と付加詞節の動詞の間に矛盾が生じないことから、また(1)の文との意味の類似性から、主動詞として具現化しているmoveは何か重要な意味的な貢献を果たしているのではなく、Motionのみを表すthe generalized motion verbであり、様態の語根（float, roll, bounceなど）が軽動詞vに様態編入されないときに、defaultでmoveとして発音される可能性があることを示した。今後の研究の展開に関しては、動詞句省略の現象などを用いて、(1)と(2)の統語構造の妥当性について検討することを予定している。
