项目摘要

本年度は、(1) 名詞による名詞修飾と名詞由来形容詞（関係形容詞）による名詞修飾の意味上の違いについて考察を進めるとともに、(2) 前置詞関連要素と派生形態論・屈折形態論との関わりについて整理し、得られた研究成果を論文の形でまとめることができた。まず(1)について、「名詞＋名詞」と「関係形容詞＋名詞」の間には、意味上の違いは無いとするのが大方の先行研究の見方であるが (例：industry output vs. industrial output)、両表現をよく比較してみると、それぞれが表すことのできる意味範囲には違いがあり、「名詞＋名詞」の方がより広い関係性を表せることが分かった。このような違いが生じる理由について、分類に関わる機能範疇の有無という点から論じた。関係形容詞は、分類に関わる機能範疇によって修飾対象の名詞と関係付けられる一方、名詞が名詞を修飾する場合にはそのような機能範疇による介在が無いため、より自由度が高いのだと考えられる。(2)については、派生と屈折の境界を考える際、前置詞関連要素が関わる現象に注目することが重要である点が示唆された。前置詞関連要素が関わる現象とは、空間関係を表す格標示と関係形容詞を含めた名詞由来修飾語のことである。前者は、空間関係は広く前置詞によって表される点、後者は基底構造に前置詞句を持つと分析される点 (Nagano (2013)) で前置詞と関連した要素を含んでいる。複数の言語のデータを見てみると、前置詞関連要素が屈折の領域（格標示と特定の言語における名詞由来修飾語）と派生の領域（英語の関係形容詞）の両方で利用可能であることが指摘できる。派生と屈折の境界については形態論の分野で長く議論されてきたが、本研究の指摘に基づき、前置詞関連要素の分布という視点からもこの問題を考察できることが示された。
