Creating intercultural communication materials for nursing education through mixed-method development of a cross-cultural nursing inventory

A survey designed to be a scale measuring Japanese nursing professionals' attitudes toward cross-cultural nursing was conducted nationwide in academic year 2021-22. In the current year being reported (2022-23), the survey results were analyzed both descriptively, to identify respondent characteristics and overall results, and statistically, in the form of a factor analysis of the survey items. A total of 48 question items in six factors were extracted. Said factors, upon analysis, were labeled as follows: Knowledge, Awareness, Attitude, Skills,Respect, and Self-awareness, all regarding cross-cultural nursing. Survey results were then written up for reporting and submission for publication, as well as presented at one domestic and two international conferences. The research project then entered its second phase, in which individual interviews were conducted with eleven nursing professionals regarding their cross-cultural nursing experience.
