本研究は、少年赤十字と赤十字の機関誌の内容に基づいて、世界各国の少年赤十字団員がどのように子ども同士の国際文化交流へ貢献したのかを明らかにするものである。今年度は、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大のため、海外資料調査を実施できない状態が続いたが、国内において新しい資料を発見したことによって、資料調査を行い、その成果を発表することができた。とりわけ、今年度は4回に分けて資料調査を行い、一部の資料に基づいて、研究発表(1回)を行い、研究ノート(1本)を執筆した。新しい資料の中には、日本が最も頻繁に交流を行なっていたアメリカとカナダの少年赤十字の雑誌の他に、ポーランド、チェコスロバキア、ブルガリア、ラトビア等の中東欧諸国の少年赤十字の機関誌と、チリを始めとする南米の国々の機関誌もあった。特に、日本にとって重要な交流相手国であったポーランドの機関誌を分析することによって、ポーランドにとっても日本が重要な交流相手国であったことを具体的なデータを通して確認することができた。ポーランド、チェコスロバキアは、少年赤十字の国際文化交流を最も盛んに行っていた国々であったため、本研究にとって非常に重要な研究対象であり、当初の企画にはなかった国々との比較が可能になったことも本研究にとって興味深い展開であると言える。これによって、より多面的な分析が可能になり、今回の成果は、今後の研究の推進に大きく関わっているのである。これ以降は、上記の国々の少年赤十字の機関誌だけではなく、赤十字の機関誌の調査も予定している。なお、本研究は、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大のため、当初の研究計画より遅れが生じた状態にあるのも事実である。これ以降の海外資料調査の際には、当初の企画にあった国の資料を全て調査することができない可能性が高い。そのため、優先順位をつけて本研究にとって最も重要なものを調査することを予定している。
