项目摘要

2022年度は、研究報告を通じて研究課題の内容をブラッシュアップさせた。本研究課題では日本滞在経験のある日系アメリカ人二世に焦点を当てている。そのなかで特に本年度は、二世がアメリカに帰国（いわゆる帰米）する前に、日本軍に従軍した経験を分析した。これらの経験は、通常アメリカ史として扱われる日系アメリカ人史では語られないものである。日系二世の日本軍従軍に関する体験記等を分析し、従軍、日米間の移動を通じてこれらの二世が日本とアメリカに対してどのような帰属感を持ち、両国の戦争遂行に対してどのように考えるのかを分析した。日本移民学会の発表では、日本滞在中に日本軍に、帰米後にアメリカ軍に従軍した二世の経験を取り上げ、日米二つの国家に従軍した日系二世について論じた。上智大学の国際ワークショップでは、日系二世が従軍を通じて日本ないしアメリカ「帝国」のプロジェクトにかかわったことに着目し、日系二世が従軍を振り返る語りの中で、日本やアメリカの帝国主義的側面をどのように考えるかを明らかにした。２つの研究発表では、例外的とも言える日系二世の日本軍従軍を日系アメリカ人研究においてどのように位置づけられるかなどについてコメントを得た。また、本年度は大学の講義でゲスト講演する機会を得た。多文化共生社会の授業で、日系アメリカ人が多く住むハワイ社会の移民や戦争の歴史について説明し、ハワイ社会の多文化と葛藤について議論をおこなった。ハワイ社会から日系アメリカ人の経験をとらえなおす作業を通じて、本研究課題で、「ナショナル」だけでなく「ローカル」の視点を組み込む必要性を感じた。
