本研究の目的は大都市在住高齢者のボランティア活動を促進するため、活動年数の違いによる活動上の困難を把握し、必要とされる支援内容と課題を明らかにすることである。当初の研究実施計画では調査を３つ予定していたが、現在まで２つのインタビュー調査がコロナウイルスの影響により未実施となっている。調査１の対象は2016年～2018年度までにA市の認知症予防リーダー養成講座を修了し、回想法の研修を修了している者631名である。調査の実施にあたっては2019年11月に質問紙一式を認知症予防リーダーの活動拠点である老人福祉センターより配付し、配付に重複が無いよう手渡した者は一覧に記録した。調査期間中の配付者数は416名であった。質問項目は、基本属性、研修受講年度、居住区、居住年数、登録区、介護経験の有無、活動頻度、回想法に関する項目、地域活動の目的、困難、達成度である。329名の返送があり回収率は79.0％であった。困難に感じていることに関して、「難聴のある参加者への対応」が30.4％と最も高く、ついで「認知症のある参加者への対応」が26.１％と高かった。また、「同区のリーダーの活動状況が把握できない」「人間関係が深まらない」「活動するリーダーがいつも決まっている」など認知症予防リーダーの活動における関係性や集団としての項目にも困難を感じていた。
