本研究では，人が「過去」を想起したりすることについて「ノスタルジア（Nostalgia；なつかしさ）」や「継時的比較」などをキーワードに検討し，「過去」の想起が担う役割を統合的に明らかにすることを目指している。特に，自己評価の維持や高揚に「過去」の想起がどのように寄与しているかについて整理することを目指している。本年度は，昨年度実施した「過去の自己」と「現在の自己」を比較する程度（継時的比較への志向性）や，「過去」と「現在」との比較に伴う感情などが，発達的にどのように変化するかについて検討について学会発表を行い，それをもとにさらなる調査の計画・実施を行った。また，本年度は継時的比較志向性と社会的比較志向性という観点からも生涯発達的な変化について検討を行った。その結果，比較への志向性が継時的・社会的比較いずれにおいても年齢とともに下がって行くことが示唆され，同時に年齢に伴って自尊感情は上がって行く傾向が見られた。「過去」の回想や継時的比較が若い世代の方が相対的に多い傾向があることは，先行研究とも一致していたが，社会的比較も含め，比較への志向性は20代，30代の方が相対的に高いことが明らかになった。自尊感情は年齢とともに上がって行くことから，世代によって「過去」との比較に限らず，比較過程自体の持つ意味や位置づけなどが異なっていることも推測される。こういった点について，今後さらなる検討が必要であることが示唆された。
