本研究の目的は、製品デザイン開発プロセスにおける部門間の相互調整や製品開発組織の戦略志向性に着目することで、製品デザイン開発プロセスにおけるそれらの要因が最終的なデザインの成果に及ぼす影響を明らかにすることである。2022年度は、それまでの既存研究成果の整理・検討をさらに詳細に行い、改めて本研究の位置づけを明確にして、リサーチクエスチョンにかかわる仮説及び概念モデルを構築するとともに、この仮説・概念モデルにもとづいて質問票を作成した。次に、質問票調査を実施する前に、5社（自動車、電機、日用品メーカのデザイナー及びマーケターが対象）を対象にインタビュー調査を実施して仮説・概念モデル及び質問票に対するコメントを収集し、それらの内容を質問票の質問項目の修正に反映させた。そして、日本の製造業企業いおいて、プロダクトを製造しており、デザインを必要とすると想定される企業約2000社を選定し、それらの企業を対象に質問票を郵送し、約400社から回収した。収集したデータから、回答企業の製品開発パフォーマンス、製品開発プロセスに対するデザイン部門の関与の仕方や度合い、社内または事業部内におけるデザインのとらえ方、製品開発にかかわる戦略志向性や組織要因について集計を行い、回答企業に対してフィードバックを行った。最後に、収集したデータにもとづき、構築した仮説及び概念モデルの適用範囲を検証し、それらの研究成果を論文にまとめる準備を整えた。
