がんと糖尿病を併せ持ち外来化学療法を行っている患者にとって、血糖コントロールは予後に影響するだけでなく、がん化学療法の治療の完遂、治療意欲の維持・向上を図るうえでも重要である。しかし、化学療法剤の副作用の影響や自己管理に委ねられる範囲が広がったことなどから、血糖のコントロールは困難になりやすい。つまり、がんと糖尿病の治療の両方を続けながら日常生活の管理を続けていくことは、患者にとっては至難の業と言え、外来において看護師による継続的な支援が欠かせない。本研究の目的は、糖尿病とがんを併せ持ち、在宅で療養生活を営みながら両疾患の治療を継続する患者および家族が体験している困難とその対処、外来看護師に対するニーズを明らかにし、外来における看護支援のありかたを見出すことである。そのために、糖尿病とがんの治療を受けている患者および、糖尿病看護もしくはがん看護に関する高い専門性をもち外来看護を実践している看護師を対象とした調査を行い、得られた結果を踏まえて支援モデルを作成することを計画している。2022年度は、COVID-19の感染状況を踏まえて研究計画を見直した。そのうえで、糖尿病看護もしくはがん看護に関する高い専門性をもち、外来看護を実践している看護師を対象とした質問紙調査（郵送調査・Web調査）と、インタビュー調査を行う研究計画を立案し、所属機関の研究倫理審査委員会を受審した。また、出版社から依頼を受けて、前年度までに公表した論文を、複数回にわたり専門誌に掲載した。
