本年度は，新型コロナウィルス感染症の影響で研究活動がほぼ中断したといってよい。当初予定していた海外調査が全てできなくなってしまった。同時に，新型コロナウィルス感染症の影響で勤務校の業務も大幅に増加し，研究活動に割く時間も大幅に減少してしまった。予定していた論文投稿や学会発表もできなかった。既存のデータの整理検討とオンライン調査に向けての文献研究にとどまった。現在も新型コロナウィルス感染症の流行が終息しないため，オンライン調査の実施に切り替える予定である。本研究は，「未知語意味理解ストラテジー」として，「文脈を利用した意味推測」と「辞書を利用した意味理解」という２つの形態における「適性」の役割を明らかにすることを目指していた。しかし，オンライン調査で行う場合は調査に限界があるため，「文脈を利用した意味推測」のみを対象に検討したい。予備調査にて明らかになった課題や対象語を用いて調査を行う。ただし，海外の調査協力者を対象にオンライン調査を行う場合，次のような課題が挙げられる。第一に，調査協力者の確保である。調査協力校の担当者と密に連絡を取ること調査協力者の確保を図りたい。第二に，調査協力者に対する謝金の送付の問題である。どのような方法で謝金を送金できるのかを情報収集しなければならない。第三に，インターネット上の問題である。どのような調査サイトを使用すれば，調査が円滑に行えるかについても情報収集が必要であろう。
