本研究の目的は、多様な価値観や文化的背景をもつ人々の共生が目指される現代社会において、少数者の排除とも、包摂的排除ともならない道徳教育の実施方法を開発することである。研究の遂行にあたっては、多文化化が進む英国の学校の訪問調査を実施するとともに、歴史や制度等の背景に関する理論的な分析を行う。本年度は研究代表者の山口が英国での訪問調査を実施した。訪問調査の実施時期は2018年6月、対象校はマンチェスター市内に所在するB小学校とロンドン市内に所在するH学校である。両市はともに移民の人々を受け入れてきた背景がある。B小学校の訪問では、宗教教育の授業を参観するとともに、当校の教育の実施方針や方法について学校長と意見交換をする機会をもった。H学校は、英国における近年の社会状況を反映して、多文化共生のためのシティズンシップ教育や宗教教育を実施している。H学校が学校教育の全体を通じて行う道徳教育の方針、教育課程、使用教科書からも文化的な多様性を統合するための教育の取組みをうかがうことができた。本年度は訪問調査に加えて、文献調査に基づく理論研究や道徳教育の指導方法に関する研究も実施した。研究の成果は、オーストラルアジア教育哲学会（Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia）の年次大会及び中国四国教育学会の年次大会において口頭で発表した。また、論文の成果は、『道徳教育方法研究』（日本道徳教育方法学会）及び『教育学研究紀要』（中国四国教育学会）誌上にて発表した。
