The research project deals with a quantity of unknown written sources, aiming to thoroughly document the history of the Greeks, who during World War II were interned in concentration camps in Nazi Germany or deported into the territory of the Third Reich as forced laborers.Furthermore it focuses on the case of conscripted volunteer workers in order to shed light on the shades of grey between recruitment, forced labor and work migration, using Greece as a case study. The central aspect of the project is to outline the basic concepts of recruitment of labor force from Greece and its integration into the War economy of Nazi Germany. The project uses a microhistorical approach into the fates of Greek laborers and concentation camp prisoners, which will be supported by thorough archival research in Germany, Greece, The United States and Austria.
