本研究の目的は音声の鳴き交わしや動作を相手と交代して行う、動作者交代（Turn-taking）におけるリズムの認知・産出に関する能力と、リズムを知覚することが社会関係を築くことに及ぼす影響を、ヒト、ニホンザル、ラットにおいて明らかにすることであった。当該年度は、ラットを対象とした共同行為実験を主に行った。昨年度までに行ったラットの外的刺激への同期の研究について、論文発表と論文執筆をおこなった。また、霊長類と奇蹄類のコミュニケーションと認知能力に関する研究に参加し、学会発表を行った。規則的、周期的に呈示される外的刺激に対して、その規則性を抽出し、刺激のタイミングを予測して自身の動作をそのタイミングに合わせて表出することを、動作同期という。動作同期はヒトでは会話や音楽、他者との協力など、幅広い場面で発揮される。行動実験の結果、ラットでは実験刺激のテンポと同じ間隔で動作を産出していたが、刺激のオンセットに動作を合わせる傾向はみられなかった。すなわち、動作同期のうち、テンポを合わせる能力はみられるが、タイミングを外的刺激に合わせる能力はみられないことが示唆された。これらの結果は、動物認知の専門誌に論文として発表した。今年度はラットを対象とした共同行為の実験も実施した。ヒトの共同行為では、共通の目的のために相手と役割を分担し、動作を相補的に行う。ラットが相手の役割を理解し、目的や動作の表象を共有するのかを検討するために、共同サイモン課題を用いた実験を行った。その結果、相手の担当する刺激―反応対も自身の行動選択に組み込んでいることが示唆される結果が得られた。今後共同サイモン効果が得られる個体間の属性や条件を詳細に検討し、協調的な行動に関わる認知能力の生物学的な基盤を探ることができると考える。
