第１の目標である、《マハーヴァストゥ》新校訂本の出版が行われた。共同研究者カタルジーナ・マルチニアクは全３冊の内、第３巻が２０１９年３月に発刊された（６３５頁）。また第２巻が２０２０年３月に発刊された（５７１頁）。各巻とも、注記は１万を超え、それぞれの注記には単語・用例が写本レベル、出版本でどうであったのか、その文法的特徴、読み方、意味を詳細に記してある。その上で、最も確実性の高い読み方を提案した。今回の共同研究においては、最古の貝葉写本とそれを筆写した１６５８年の紙写本を直接の第一次資料として取り扱うことによって、筆写された写本同士にも言語的な変化が反映されており、それがテキストの伝承として残されたということが明確にされた。このテキストには他にも多数の写本が存在しているが、研究の結果それらが１７世紀の紙写本から写されたコピーでしかないことが分かった。このことは他の仏典の場合にも充分当てはまる。また、これまで不明とされてきた仏教梵語の語彙も今回の研究によって、写本での書写段階での変化、或いは出版本での校訂者によって生まれていたこと、そして語形・意味不明とされていた語彙の多くもその由来と意味とを説明できることとなった。こうした《マハーヴァストゥ》の写本、そこに見られる語彙・語法の研究によって、先ずは大衆部、そしてそれを母胎として生まれた初期大乗仏教の経典にも、同じようなノウハウをもって研究を進めることが可能であると思われる。初期大乗仏典は、同じ内容を散文と偈頌を繰り返して述べていく特徴があり、それはこの《マハーヴァストゥ》と共通している。また両者は言語的にも古い俗語の形を残していて、それらを対比することによって、より客観的な視座をもって思想の変遷を辿ることが出来るであろう。今回の共同研究は今後の新しい研究を進める画期的なものであったと思われる。
