本研究の目的は、日本に多く存在するワックス裏打ちされた油彩画作品について、それらをより良い状態で後世に残すべく、適切な再修復手法を提示することにある。そのためには、前段階として、再修復処置が求められるに至った要因を明らかにする必要がある。ワックス裏打ちが部分的に剥離する事象に着目し、本年度は、その発生メカニズムを紐解くことに焦点を置いた。はじめに、裏打ち布の部分剥離の状態を明らかにするための最新の画像化技術を導入し、剥離の現状確認を行った。自作の油彩画試料による予備試験の結果、作品と裏打ち布の間の空隙の存在やその断面の形状を画像上で確認するには、赤外線アクティブサーモグラフィーおよびテラヘルツ波時間領域イメージング技術が有効であることが判明する。ワックス裏打ちの部分剥離が予想される美術館所蔵作品に対し、これら２つの手法を用いて同様の状態把握を実施した。続いて、蜜蝋系接着剤の物性の観点から、経年変化におけるワックス裏打ちの部分剥離の発生要因を探った。蜜蝋系接着剤の成分組成の分析と温度特性の解析、剥離接着強さの測定を実施した。これらの結果に導かれた裏打ち布の部分剥離への影響要因を踏まえ、ワックス裏打ちの部分剥離の発生メカニズムに関する仮説を立案した。最後に、導かれた発生メカニズムを基に、ワックス裏打ちの部分剥離を抱える油彩画の今後の保存修復方針について考察し、博士研究論文としてまとめた。再修復処置の具体策を提示するには至らなかったが、ワックス裏打ちされた油彩画作品を取り扱う際の判断材料を提供するとともに、その判断材料を得るための手法を示すことができた。現在、ワックス裏打ちが実例作品に実施されることはほとんどなく、失われた修復技術となりつつある。本研究をとおして得られた情報や知見が、当該作品の保存修復に関する判断を求められる局面において、一つの拠り所となることが期待される。

The purpose of this study is to provide some suggestions on how to repair oil paintings in Japan. The first step is to repair the damage. This year's event is the focus of the event. The status of partial stripping of the inner and outer layers is clearly defined. The latest imaging technology is introduced and the status of stripping is confirmed.
