ヒト母乳（以下、母乳）は、児の成長にとって欠かせないものである。一部の母親もしくは児に医学的な母乳育児阻害要因がなければ、母乳を児に与えることは意義深いといえる。しかし、母乳はヒトの血液から産生されるためにその成分組成は、同一人物の母乳であっても、その質が常に一定ではない。また、同一の泌乳であってもその最初と最後では組成が異なるといわれる。母乳は児の成長に応じた成分で構成されており、免疫を高めるなどの特徴がある。栄養学や生理学の分野で母乳に関する研究が多数なされているが、その大半は個人の母乳研究ではない。また、ベテラン助産師はいわゆる「おっぱいマッサージ」を通して、「よいおっぱい」「悪いおっぱい」を言い当て、児は「よいおっぱい」を実際よく飲む。このベテラン助産師が「よい」と判断する母乳、「悪い」と判断する母乳の相違点を視覚的に明らかにされた研究は少ないため、形態学的に検証する目的で本研究は開始された。今年度は、ベテラン助産師が「よい」と判断する母乳、「悪い」と判断する母乳、それぞれの形態学的特徴を光学顕微鏡下で観察し、続いて、電気泳動を用いて膜たんぱくの状態について検討、さらに走査・透過顕微鏡を用いて膜たんぱくの状態の程度を明らかにする予定であった。その準備として、研究責任者の所属大学のある開業助産師の協力を得て、母乳保存に関する基礎データを収集し、べテラン助産師が母親に「よいおっぱい」「悪いおっぱい」と断定する母乳の特徴を形態学的に明らかにする準備をした。また、他大学の研究者へも分析協力の依頼を行った。しかし、研究代表者の傷病による研究中断、退職に至る。そのため、本研究は終了に至った。
