The online source edition “Key-Documents of German-Jewish History” considers itself an innovative project to both apply and develop existing digital infrastructures and electronic publication-tools. Making sources available on the internet increases their visibility and accessibility, free access to all material is guaranteed as well as the option to reuse the technical infrastructure for other contents and editions. The digitized records (facsimiles), transcripts, and translations as well as metadata can be used for future research projects. Publication on the internet and working with both senior and junior scholars ensures that the edition reflects current scholarly debate and new trends. Findings from current research projects or previously little studied documents are presented to a wider public. The edition aims to make a long-lasting contribution to scholarship. Digitization- and publication-projects require sustainability-concepts which guarantee that the content as well as the technical implementations will be preserved for the future. This source edition is exclusively based on open source solutions and integrates common standard formats for digital editions. In the following months the reusability is to be increased, so that all components can either be used individually by similar projects or be further developed by the community. Tutorials will explain how to adapt the project’s technical infrastructure to other projects. A data management plan will furthermore document the project‘s strategy for sustainably preserving all data for the future.
