Design of Structural Pattern Recognition Hardware and Software

我们提出了一种全新的形状结构识别方法，我们称之为变缝法。系统的基本部分从硬件和固件两个方面来实现。该部分附加在东芝的普通图像处理系统上，称为TOSPIX。在TOSPIX中，我们编写了许多特征提取子程序，这些子程序为我们制造的硬件和固件提供命令和参数。TOSPIX再次连接到符号3600 LISP机器。该LISP机器接受待识别图形的结构描述，并将描述解释为发送给硬件的一系列命令及其参数。图形的最终识别是在LISP机器上通过从TOSPIX获取特征参数来完成的。整个系统运行稳定，对线形图、机械设计图、电子电路图、各种简单形状等图形均有识别结果。

We proposed a completely new idea about the structural recognition of shapes, which we named as variable slit method. Basic part of this system is realized in hardware and firmware. This part is attached to an ordinary image processing system by Toshiba which is called as TOSPIX. In TOSPIX we wrote many feature extraction subroutines which give command and parameters to the hardware and firmware we fabricated. TOSPIX is again connected to symbolics 3600 LISP machine. This LISP machine accepts the structural descriptions of the figures to be recognized, and interpret a description to a sequence of commands and their parameters which are sent to the hardware. The final recognition of a figure is done on LISP machine by getting the feature parameters from TOSPIX. The whole system is working stably, and we have many recognition results for the figures such as line drawings, machine design maps, electronic circuit maps, and various simple shapes.
