The aim of this research is to give the white light laser a direct modulation, resulting in a coloured beam in manners of time dividing scheme in high frequency. Here, the white light laser means a laser which can oscillate the three primary colours simultaneously by a single laser tube.When this research was initiated, a proto type full colour image printer with this white light laser was produced by the co-research with a company. At that stage, the white light laser beam was split into three primary colours, then the modulation was given to individual colours, and finally combined again, resulting in a coloured beam. This beam scans on the sensitized material.The quality of the full colour image print produced by this printer was so nice comparing to that by ordinary printer. If we can give the white light laser a direct modulation, various technical merits are given.In this research, therefore, the aim was to invent the principle and method to realize a direct modulation of white laser beam. Three methods, (1)Control of the cathode fall in potential, (2)Application of a herical hollow cathode, (3)Discussion of a possibility to apply an endoergic charge transfer, were considerd.The idea (1) was succeeded in principle and its result was reported at an International Conference. About (2) and (3), futher researches are now under going.
