On the Suitability of Cultivation of Shiitake (Lentinus edodes(Berk.)Sing) on Synthetic Sawdust Substrates.Shitake^<.1>,Nameko^<.2>,Hiratake^<.3>,Enoki^<.4> and so on are known as the cultivated edible mushroom in Japan. Shiitake shows the most output in the many mushroom.In recent years, as the cultivation of edible mushrooms increased, the shortage of shitake bed-logs became noticeable. Cultivation of Shiitake on using synthetic substrate is a new method that have been developed recently. Knowledge is currently limited as to how different genotypes act on synthetic substrates with regard to total production and quality of mushroom produced.The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of nutrient supplements for yield of mushroom, the evaluation of surface treatment of synthetic substrates, the acceptability of the climate for field cultivation, and to assess the morphology of the mushrooms produced by unique genotypes. The results obtained are summarized as follows.I … More n indoor cultivation, the effective synthetic substrates for the production of fruit bodies consisted of 23.6% oak (Quercus crispula Blume ) wood meal , 12.0% beech (Fagus crenata Brume ) wood meal , 4.0% wheat bran, 0.4% charcoal meal and 60.0% water. Wrapping the colonized substrate with cork sheets or polyvinyliden chloride film brought better results for the growth of mycelium, and the number and weight of fruit bodies.In field cultivation, differences in yield among the fourteen lines were found after harvesting mushrooms in the spring and autumn. Lines 5 and 11 had the highest yields of the fourteen lines evaluated. Lines 2 and 3 were well suited for production of fruit bodies in autumn. The synthetic substrate effective for the production of the fruit bodies consisted of 35.6% beech wood meal, 4.0% wheat bran, 0.4% Sanpearl CP (Sanyokokusaku Pulp Co, Tokyo, Japan) and 60.0% water.
