本研究はパーキンソン病患者を対象に頸部感覚神経電気刺激を行う介入研究である。医療機器の適応外使用であることから、特定臨床研究として実施することとした。令和3年度に、特定臨床研究開始のために必要な諸準備を行い、「パーキンソン病での頸部感覚神経電気刺激リハビリにおける嚥下機能改善に関する単群介入研究」として広島大学病院倫理委員会に提出し、令和4年4月25日承認、jRCT公表を行った。症例数設計は統計解析の結果27名となった。令和4年6月1日から症例登録を開始した。参加希望者が想定外に多く、登録が速やかに進み、令和5年3月3日、最終症例（27例目）の登録を行った。対象はパーキンソン病患者で、介入は、頸部感覚神経電気刺激を1回20分、週2回、8週間実施とした。介入終了後さらに8週間経過観察とし、評価は全過程（16週間）において4週間ごとに評価した。医療機器に伴う有害事象は今のところ生じていない。令和5年3月31日時点で、11例は全過程完遂している。また、2例が参加者の都合で脱落している。本研究の主要評価項目は、介入終了時（8週後）での咳テスト正常者割合としている。ほかに嚥下造影検査での評価を副次評価項目としている。さらに、探索的評価項目として、頸部多チャンネル筋電図、電子聴診器による嚥下音評価を入れており、それらのデータ解析の一部は令和4年度中から開始した。全体の統計解析は、最終症例完遂後で、令和5年度中に開始できる見通しである。
