本研究は、途上国国家において誕生するアスリートの社会的価値に着目する。経済社会的状況により、国際競技大会に出場する障壁は相対的に高い途上国国家においては、アスリートの活躍に対する国民の効用は高いものと予想される。これまで先進国中心に議論されてきたアスリートの社会的位置づけについて、途上国国家に視座を移し本研究を進める。今年度は、昨年度に続き、国家におけるアスリートの位置づけ、アスリートがもたらす国民・市民への社会的心理的影響、発展途上国におけるスポーツチーム／アスリートが果たしてきた社会的役割に関する論文や書籍など文献を収集し、これまでの研究報告や事例を収集した。文献収集の結果を踏まえ、タイ・バンコクを訪問し，スポーツ政策所管省庁（観光スポーツ省）およびタイ・スポーツ庁を訪問し，タイ国家におけるアスリート育成に関する制度や育成状況など調査した。また、ナショナルトレーニングセンターを訪問し，地方都市出身のアスリートに対してこれまでのキャリアパスについて聴取した。訪問調査の結果をまとめながら、引き続き面接調査を実施する。まず、アスリートの視点に迫り、どのような環境で過ごしてきたか、またナショナルレベルに至るまでの機会がどのようにもたらされてきたのか、どのような社会生活を送ってきたのか、社会とアスリート自身にどのような相互作用が生じてきたのか多様な視点で探索的に調査を行うそして、アスリート自身の主観として周囲や社会集団にどのような影響を与えているのか探索的に明らかにする。
