本年度、取り組んだ研究は、主に以下の四点である。一点目は、予備調査の段階で得た、雑誌『実業少年』に幸田露伴「御手製未来記」（1911）のまったく知られていない最終回が存在したとの新発見をめぐるものである。この新発見に基づき、本文を翻刻し、その意義を論じる論文をおおむね成稿した。残念ながら本年度中に完成にまでは至らなかったため、2023年7月までを目標にこの論文を完成させ、投稿を試みたい。二点目は、『実業少年』と類似した性格を持つ雑誌『成功』に関するものである。『成功』誌上に発表された幸田露伴の文章と、『実業少年』に発表された幸田露伴の文章とを併読していくと、「簡易生活」という概念がどちらにも共通して見出せるとの知見を得た。さらに、「簡易生活」が明治後期の一つの流行概念であった様態にも気づくことができ、この流行の源泉の一つである徳富蘇峰やワグネル、上司小剣が編集した『簡易生活』（1906～1907）にまで調査の範囲を広げていった。このような作業を通じて時代的流行を幸田露伴がどのように取り込んだのかを検証するという、次年度へ向けての問題意識の発展を得た。三点目は、二点目の取り組みとも大きく関係するが、幸田露伴が『実業少年』に発表した「供食会社」（1912）をめぐる研究である。ファストフード産業への夢を語るこの小説の分析を進め、①チャイルズ・レストランというアメリカの外食産業の取り組みが材源となっていること、②「簡易生活」という流行概念をこの小説に取り入れていること、の二点に特に注目して研究した。この成果は、2023年6月に日本比較文学会全国大会で報告する予定であり、2023年度中に論文化したい。四点目として、『実業少年』の復刻版刊行を視野にいれ、この雑誌の刊行状況などの基本的な情報を整理し、『実業少年』のほぼ全ての内容が見渡せるようになった。
