今年度においては、主に結果句として機能するinto trouble, out of a job, awakeの分析に焦点を絞り、共起する動詞や構文全体に対してそれらがどのような意味解釈上の影響を与えているのかについて調査した。まず、into troubleは [困難/危険]と[非難/処罰]という二種類の意味フレームを、out of a jobは[雇用]と[責務]という二種類の意味フレームをそれぞれ喚起することを指摘した。そして、共起する動詞が[非難/処罰]と[雇用]におけるフレーム要素の役割に情報を書き込むという概念的依存関係を認める分析を提示した。この分析によって、これらの結果句がそれぞれ同一の動詞と共起した際でも、結果状態が成立する時間的推移過程や動詞の表す行為に関して複数の意味解釈が可能であることのメカニズムが説明された。結果句awakeについては、先行研究において物理的forceを表す動詞と共起するものとしてしか認識されてこなかったが、COCA コーパス調査によって、ある程度の頻度で心理的forceを表す動詞とも共起することを明らかにした。このような心理的forceが関わる事例の観察を通して、結果句awakeには「眠りからの目覚め状態」という基本的な意味に加えて、新たに「覚醒状態の強化」「無知からの目覚め状態」「機能的活性化」という3種類の意味の存在が確認されることになった。尚、ここでの心理的forceが関わる事例にはstartleやshockのような心的刺激そのものを語彙化した動詞だけでなく、shakeやnudgeなどの物理的forceが心的刺激を表す動詞として解釈されているものも含まれるが、このような解釈が誘発される要因として結果句awakeの意味が少なからず関与していると考えられる。
