本研究は、英語の可算名詞と不可算名詞の区別を認知言語学の知見に基づいて指導し、事前・事後・遅延事後テストを行い、その効果を多角的に検証するものである。可算性の正しい区別をどの程度まで習得できるのか、名詞の種類や話す・聞くなどの使用場面、学習者の習熟度によって学習した知識の使用にどのような違いが出るのか、知識の定着に必要な指導量や期間はどの程度なのかを明らかにすることで、効率的かつ効果的な指導方法を提案することを目的とする。令和４年度は、指導法や実験方法の精査、実験材料の作成を行った。日本人英語学習者を対象に認知言語学的アプローチによる指導を施した先行文献を収集し、その指導方法、指導回数や時間、テスト方法、分析方法と指導の統計的効果量などの情報をデータベース化しており、その作業は継続中である。実験手法として、遠隔で実施可能なデータ収集方法に関する情報収集や比較を行った（E-Prime, SuperLab, PCIbex, Prolific, etc.）。実験アイテムの選定には可算・不可算に関する先行研究のアイテムを参照し、新JACET8000の単語リストに掲載されている単語から具象名詞と抽象名詞を選定した。また、文脈によって可算・不可算の両方になり得る名詞を使用するため、英英辞書にて同一定義に可算・不可算の用法が記載されている単語のみを選定した。現在はそれらのアイテムを使用した実験文を作成中である。実験に使用するテスト形式として、オフライン・オンラインの区別、産出・理解の区別、時間制限の有無などを考慮した複数の形式を作成しており、そのネイティブチェックのデータ収集に向けて作業を継続している。
