江戸時代の対馬宗家が作成・管理した対馬宗家文書のうち、初年度の研究課題は「売立」（1910年代）に関するものである。過去の研究において旧華族らは大正5年（1916）から昭和16年（1941）までに毎年100回程度の「売立」を行っていたことが知られている。これらの「売立」は「売立目録」としてまとめられることが多く、その原本が東京文化財研究所などに保管されている。近年ではこれらの「売立目録」を網羅した書籍（都守淳夫『売立目録の書誌と全国所在一覧』〔勉誠出版、2001年〕など）やデータベースも開発され、容易に「売立目録」が検索できるようなった。しかし、対馬宗家文書が「売立」られた事実を「売立目録」から追究することはできなかった。書籍やデータベースで検索するだけでなく、東京文化財研究所へ出張して現地調査も行ったが、対馬宗家文書の「売立」に関する「売立目録」を発見することはできなかったのである。このことは対馬宗家文書の「売立」がなされなかったことを意味するわけではない。恐らく「売立目録」は美術工芸品の「売立」の際に作成され、古文書のような歴史資料の「売立」のときには作成されなかった可能性がある。では古文書のような歴史資料の「売立」はどのようにしてなされていたのであろうか。ここで注目したのが、古書店の回顧録である。店主が明治・大正・昭和期の古書業界を語ったものであり、その中に古文書「売立」の事実を認めることができる。対馬宗家文書の「売立」に関しても数件確認することができた。これらをまとめて、「江戸藩邸由来対馬宗家文書の伝来――明治・大正期における養玉院保管分の売立・売却――」と題した報告を、弘前大学國史研究会令和4年度大会で行った。報告原稿は論文としてまとめ、今後発表する予定である。
