本研究は、一夫多妻家計におけるマラリアの予防・早期治療希求行動が、一夫一婦家計におけるそれと異なっているかどうか、異なっているとすればなぜ異なるのか、を明らかにすることを目的とする。その達成のため、(A)家計内資源配分のモデルを応用した理論分析と、(B)理論モデルに基づくデータ分析を行う。当初計画では、2022年度は倫理審査と理論モデルの検討、次年度に予定している調査の準備を行うこととしていた。2023年度はフィールド調査により、データの収集を行い、2024年度は収集したデータを分析し、論文を執筆することとしている。2022年度には、(A)の理論分析のため、文献整理を中心に行った。家族の経済学、特に一夫多妻家計における資源配分問題は、近年特に重要な貢献が多く発表されている。コロナ禍の移動制約が緩和されつつあったとはいえ不確実性も大きかった初年度に、この整理を進めることができたことは重要な成果であった。また、2022年後半には、データ分析の下準備のため、調査地域であるケニア西部のホマベイ郡を訪問し、現地調査を行った。同地域における結婚の様式、また先行研究で指摘されている重要な情報である女性の出産状況に関して、多数の家計を訪問してインタビュー調査を行った。現地に詳しい他分野の研究者にも相談して、風習に関する文献調査も実施した。
