研究調査項目の整合性、妥当性の確認を行った。予備調査として、市民公開講座参加者（避難経験者、支援者等ランダム）に災害時の口腔ケアについて調査したところ、回数が減ったと回答した方の多くは「水（節水を含む）」を要因として挙げていた。加えて、洗面所との距離、広さ、臭い、使用ルール（モラルにも通じる）の明確化といった点がその他の環境要因として挙げられた。一方で、清掃用具の不足や人前で義歯を外すことへの遠慮があった点も挙げられた。それらを踏まえ、災害時の口腔ケア活動に影響を与える因子として、「１．環境　２．もの　３．ひと」があり、これらの項目を重点的に調査する方針とした。関係者からの聴取では熊本地震での熊本県歯科医師会活動（現地での活動）を振り返り、「ケア用品備蓄が必要である」と提言があった。また熊本地震ならびに令和2年7月豪雨当時の避難所開設・管理者からは、感染対策や避難所環境整備においては、専門家である医療従事者の助言と説明が非常に有効であったとの指摘があった。具体的には、トイレの衛生環境の重要性では、汚染したトイレが災害時の健康被害につながることを医療従事者が説明し、運営者やボランティアを始めとする支援者に協力依頼をしたことで、トイレ環境整備につながったというものであった。この例からも、洗面所環境に関しても、本知見をまとめて提言とすることの重要性を再認識できた。生活用水の使用制限かつ、コロナ禍での感染対策に配慮した口腔ケア用品も必須と考えられたため、こちらについても情報収集を行った。避難所で生活をした被災者からのアンケート調査を予定していたが、その調査を行う場として考えていた公開講座の延期と感染対策の面からアンケート用紙による調査は困難であり、手法について再検討し、ＷＥＢ調査を行う事とし、準備を進めている状況である。それをもとに各支援者の調査を進めるべく準備を行っている。
