项目摘要

本研究課題は、ケニアに暮らす牧畜民マサイのリプロダクション(生命の再生産)の全体像を記述し、グローバルな女性器切除(Female Genital Mutilation: FGM)廃絶言説の根底にある「なぜ彼女たちはFGMを行うのか」という問いに取り組むことを目的としている。博士論文ではケニア・マサイのFGM実践とその廃絶運動に関する研究を行い、科研費・特別研究員奨励費においても同じテーマを継続してきた。一方、生命の再生産は人間活動の根幹を成すものであり、とりわけ出産の秩序と深いかかわりを持つFGMについて研究する上で欠かせない視点であるものの、体系的な先行研究は見られない。従って初年度は日本とイギリスにてリプロダクション研究に関する史料、基礎文献および最新の文献の収集を行った。2023年1月からは人新世の国際共同研究に招かれ、フランス国立科学研究センター・政治人類学研究室（Laboratoire d’Anthropologie Politique: LAP）に客員博士研究員として3か月間滞在した。研究代表者はAA研共同利用・共同研究課題「負債の動態に関する比較民族誌的研究(2)」の共同研究員でもあったため、LAPの研究会にて日本で行われている人類学的負債(debt)研究の紹介を求められた。口頭発表において、現在日本ではリプロダクションに着目した負債研究はほとんど行われていないこと、負債研究を通じて市場経済に回収されない「人間経済」の考察に至ろうとする場合、人間経済の典型例である花嫁代償や通過儀礼の研究は欠かせないという考えを発表し、フランスの人類学者らと議論を交わした。その後、AA研の研究会においてもフランスで得た議論の内容を紹介し、同共同研究課題におけるリプロダクション(生命の再生産)研究の可能性について提示した。
