Investigation of eco-hydrological processes and feedbacks in the soil-plant continuum at different spatio-temporal scales (C01)

Key goals are (a) to analyze soil-plant-atmosphere interactions between soil hydrologic conditions, tree water use and growth using CLM, (b) to derive parameters and boundary conditions for representing subsurface water flow of ParFlow by using stable isotopes, (c) to investigate land-use change effects on travel times of water by comparison of grassland, forest and deforested catchments, and (d) use results of (a), (b) and (c) to optimize simulations of TerrSysMP of soil water content (SWC) fields. Local and non-local controls will be investigated by modeling and derived scaling approaches will optimize data assimilation approaches within the TR32.
