律令祭祀である二季大祓は、罪穢を祓う祭祀であると共に、儀式構成上の性質は天皇と百官との関係を象徴・確認する祭祀であったとされる。この二季大祓の内包する儀式「東西文部解除」(やまとかわちのふひとべのはらえ)は、帰化氏族である東文部・西文部の氏人らによって内裏内で天皇に対してのみ祓刀と漢語による祝詞を奉るというものである。これらの儀式は従来「陰陽道的」「道教的」祭祀として注目・認識されていた。しかし、その性質の言及する論考は多いが儀式が二季大祓に導入された理由や時期については未だ不十分である。また、これに関連した二季御贖儀についても、その所作についてすでに論じられてはいるが、成立時期や変遷については未だ論じる余地が残されている。そこで、本研究では、この東西文部解除が罪穢を祓うというよりも、天皇の除災・延命を請願する儀式として導入されていることや、大和・河内地方に勢力をもつ帰化氏族の統率者的地位にあった東西文部と天皇との関係を象徴するために導入されたのではないかと推察した。また、導入時期としては壬申の乱以降、天武天皇朝の賜姓制度確立の過程に関係していると推察した。同様に二季大祓に内包されている儀式「二季御贖儀」については荒世和世の儀式や節折の儀式の成立時期に一考を加え、東西文部解除が平安時代中頃には二季御贖儀の一部に変容し、摂関政治最盛期には衰退し始めていたこと、東西文部解除での祓刀が鎌倉時代には節折の儀式の単なる具足と化しており、帰化氏族である東西文部の衰退と共に儀式も衰退してきていることなどを明かにした。
