平成10年度から11年度にかけて「基礎論の新構築」と題して行われた当該研究は、平成10年度においてはその数学的基礎の構築に、平成11年度においてはその哲学的基礎の構築に主眼を置く形で進められた。まず初年度の成果としては「写像の方向性のみに基づく不動点定理」としてまとめられた一連の数学的結果があり、これは11年度末にSpringer-Verlag出版の雑誌に掲載された論文としてすでに公表されている。またその一部の結果は同年の「大阪大学経済学」にも公表されており、日本経済学会の学会誌Japanese Economic Reviewにも掲載予定である。11年度は主として分析哲学・構造主義哲学・オートポイエーシスといった思想的背景を持って社会の動学へと向かう方法論を模索した。定常・自己組織化(創造)・単純に後が続くということ、これらをすべて統括する概念として、カテゴリー的普遍性が位置付けられるべきであるとの見地がその中から出て来た最も重要な視点であり、同時に定常状態あるいは均衡といった概念はむしろ定常でないこと、あるいは均衡でないということを切り出すためにこそ意義があるという観点と並んで、今後の数理経済学ひいては経済学理論に(欠落している動学と、既に枯れた静学をつなぐ観点として)新たな光明をあたえるものと信ずる。はやくも著作・講義、今年度直接指導した4名の大学院生の修士論文等においてその成果が明確に生かされているが、こういう視点がもたらす本当の成果は、もっとも目に見えない形も含めて今後数年に及ぶに相違無いであろう。
