„Unitarisierung“, „Sonderweg“, „preußisch-deutscher Dualismus“ – those were the keywords in the controversy in West Germany before 1989 over the question who dominated politics in the Kaiserreich 1871-1918, Prussia or the Reich. Since the answers during that debate were strongly influenced by the politics of memory, they are no longer satisfactory. Therefore, this project shall address the question from the perspective of cultural history.

“统一制” “ Sonderweg ” “ preußisch-deutscher Dualismus ”这些都是1989年之前西德争论的关键词围绕1871-1918年帝国时期谁主导政治的问题，普鲁士还是帝国。由于那次辩论中的答案受到记忆政治的强烈影响，它们不再令人满意。因此，这个项目应该从文化史的角度来解决这个问题。
