国語科の読みの授業で, 個の読みを深めるためにグラフィックオーガナイザーを用いた支援を行い, その効果を検証した。個の読みが成立するためには, 読みの交流を通した, メタ認知的変容が重要である。しかし, 個の読みはそれぞれの既有知識や既有体験等によって異なるため多様なものとなり, 他者との交流もかみ合わないものになりがちである。グラフィックオーガナイザーは, その多様な思考に対応し, なおかつコミュニケーションを活性化するツールになると考え, その支援としての有効性と課題について考察した。第1, 2学年6クラスを対象に臨床研究を行った。国語科の読みにおける思考には「比較する」「分類する」「多面的に見る」「関連づける」「構造化する」「発想する」等のスキルがあり, それらに対応し, 汎用性のある有効なツールとして, ベン図, マトリックスを用いた。三つの授業実践の結果から, 読むことの授業では, グラフィックオーガナイザーによる支援が思考を視覚化し, 「焦点化」「集約化」「精緻化」「構造化」のための助けとなったこと, また, 読みの交流においても「比較する」「分類する」「多面的に見る」「関連づける」「構造化する」等に有効に機能し, 読みの広がり, 深まりにつなかったことが明らかになった。この研究成果から, グラフィックオーガナイザーを用いることで汎用性のある思考の型を身につけさせることができ, 精読中心の読みではなく, 多様で魅力的な読みの授業への転換がなされることを示すことができた。実践の一部詳細は, 2016年7月上旬刊行の『アクティブ・ラーニングを位置づけた中学校国語科の授業プラン(仮)』(明治図書 吉川芳則編 共著)に掲載予定である。
