项目摘要

歴史自体に興味・関心を示さない生徒が増えている昨今であるが、人は決して歴史から逃れることはできない。人は何らかの形で自分(自身)と歴史を切り結んでいる。しかし、自我関与できる題材が少なくなった(今日の)豊かな時代に生きる若者の動機付けは難しい。彼らはインターネット等で周りとつながっていると思っており、過去と「つながる」必要性を感じていない。茂木健一郎は少女の「サンタクロースは存在するか? 」という問いに、切実な「仮想」の系譜に「つながる」ことの意味を見出した。メルヘンの主人公も、仮想という点では、サンタクロースと同様であろう。ならば、この主人公たちをとおして、過去と「つながる」ことも可能ではないのか。歴史を好きになるには「歴史にロマンを感じる」ようになればよいと言われるが、ロマンとは物語(ロマンス語による騎士道物語には恋愛、SFを始め、様々なジャンルのものが描かれた)のことである。そこで、広い意味での物語を手がかりに、授業構成を試みた。各地に伝わる民話は「虚構の出来事を虚構として語る物語」であるが、詳細になれば伝説へ、長く豊かになれば物語へと変化する。若者は(歴史のような)既に確定した過去には興味を示さなくとも、ファンタジーとして未来を創造するので、ファンタジーへも変化する「語り」(メルヘンや伝説)を考えてみた。メルヘンや伝説を教材として用いることで、生徒に興味・関心を持たせるとともに、生徒が自らのこととして考えざるを得ない、自我関与の及ぶ範囲の出来事を提示することで、歴史をとおして現在を考えることができるように、授業を組み立てた。古いものがなければ、新しいものは決して生まれてこない。歴史は(無意味な)過ぎ去った(過去の)出来事の羅列ではなく、われわれが(そこに)「つながる」ことで意味をもつのであることを、考えさせた。「赤ずきん」では時代に応じた登場人物の役割の変化を、「シンデレラ」・「白雪姫」では共通して登場する魔女をとおして「視る」ことと仮想現実(VR)を、「ドラキュラ」では死ねない死体としての吸血鬼をとおして延命治療を、「アーサー王」では(中世から)今でも変わらない恋愛の形を盛り込んだ。検証授業を行ったが、概ね好評であり、多くの生徒が過去と「つながる」ことができると答えてくれた。H28は日本史も教えていたので、「日本の妖怪」と「西洋の妖怪」を題材とした主題学習「妖怪」を行った。その中で、ある生徒が「歴史は『説明する』ことも、『語る』こともどちらも必要だと思うけど、『語る(話す)』ことの方に興味がある」と答えてくれた。ここに、歴史学習の新しい方途の可能性があるのではないだろうか。
