水族館の展示解説には文字、画像、音声など様々な方法があり、来館者への情報伝達のために用いられている。本研究では各解説手法における情報の伝達効果を検証することを目的とした。調査は東海大学海洋科学博物館の来館者を対象としてアンケートとビデオ撮影を行った。アンケートは展示解説板に関して実施し、ビデオ観察は館内の案内板2タイプ<紙(文字)、デジタル(文字)>と生物の解説板3タイプ<紙(文字と写真)、デジタル(文字と写真)、手書き(文字とイラスト)>を設置し、来館者の動向調査を行った。案内板と解説板については、基本的に各タイプで同一の内容とサイズで掲載した。結果はアンケート調査において解説板を「見た人、読んだ人」が約8割、その内「読んだ人」が約5割であった。また、解説板3タイプ<紙、デジタル、手書き>の読みやすさなどは、タイプによる偏りが見られなかった。しかし、解説板の形式では「文字と写真」が好まれる傾向にあり、「文字のみ」や「動画」が好まれていなかった。ビデオ調査において案内板2タイプは共に利用率が低く、行動にも違いは見受けられなかった。生物の解説板3タイプでは手書きで「見た人、読んだ人」の割合が一番高く、紙とデジタルは情報量が多いものの「読んだ人」の割合も高いものであった。デジタルは滞留時間も長かった。来館者の年齢や目的、情報量などにより異なることは推測されるが、「文字のみ」の形式はアンケートや利用率の結果から、情報伝達の効果は低いことが明らかであった。また、生物の解説板では手書きがアイキャッチとしての効果が見られ、紙やデジタルは情報が伝達されやすい傾向であった。展示解説で情報伝達を行うには、解説板の形式や種類を考慮して、解説デザインしていくことが有効であることが明らかになった。
