研究目的 :本研究の目的は、ポスト・スハルト期インドネシアにおけるアダットの全体像を明らかにすることである。アダットとは、慣習(法)を意味するマレー語で、インドネシアやマレーシアにおいて各民族や地域社会で定められた文化・社会的規範を指す。研究方法 :2018年3月から1年間、インドネシア・ジョグジャカルタ特別州の国立ガジャマダ大学アジア太平洋研究所にて客員研究員として滞在し、本研究を実施した。主な活動内容は以下のとおりである。・ガジャマダ大学、インドネシア大学、インドネシア科学院でのアダットに関する文献調査・シンガポール国立大学、シンガポール国立図書館でインドネシアのアダットに関する文献調査研究成果 :本調査を通じて、次のことを明らかにした。ポスト・スハルト期以降(1998年-)、アダットは個々の地域社会を秩序立てる伝統的な規範やしきたり以上の意味を持つようになってきている。地方分権化が進むインドネシアにおいて、慣習的土地所有権などを巡る住民運動がアダットを旗印として活性化してきたのである。それによってアダットは政治的意味合いを帯びるようになったと言える。現在ではアダットを尊重するための法案が国会で議論され、全国あるいは国家規模で保護・維持されるべき対象としてその存在感を示すようになってきた。一方で、そのような動向とほとんど関わりをもたない慣習法としてのアダットがいまだ社会生活に色濃く残る地域も存在する。例えばジャワ島のジョグジャカルタ特別州では、現在も州知事を世襲するスルタン(王)がアダットを含めた伝統文化の中心にあり、慣習的に「土地はスルタンのもの」である。近年、この考え方に則った法律が施行されるなど、アダットが独自の文脈で現代社会に息づいていることが明らかになった。
