研究の目的は,日米の国際比較を通じて,道徳授業のねらいに関わる子どもの哲学的思考の流れの解明を目指す。対象校は,アメリカ合衆国ハワイ州ホノルル市内の小学校5年生2クラス,京都府内の小学校5年生1クラス,福岡県内の小学校5年生1クラス,青森県内の小学校5年生1クラスである。ここで,「生命尊重」をテーマにした2時間扱いの道徳授業(アメリカではcommunity developmentの時間とした。)と,質問紙等の調査,授業の前後に2回の連想調査を行った。授業中の児童の発言,様子,板書の流れをビデオカメラ等でタイムリーな情報として授業記録とし,また,質問紙,ワークシートの記述内容によって授業前,中,後の児童の思考の一端を収集した。さらに,統計関連ソフトを活用し,授業前後の連想調査による授業評価を行うことにより,道徳授業の前後で,子ども達の思考の変化の一端を分析的に把握した。調査時期は,平成19年(2007年)6月から8月である。研究成果として,特に明らかになったことは,今回も授業の前後の連想調査において回答語数の増加が見られたこと,さらに,調査対象とした刺激語で,特に「いのち」において,日本の子どもは前回同様に,「大切」,「世界に一つ」,「つながる」,「先祖」,「家族」といった生命の唯一性,生の連続性,つながりにふれる反応が増えていた。一方,ハワイでも前回同様に,「happy」,「sad」,「good」,「live」といった感情,情緒にかかわる反応語が顕著に増えた。質問紙,ワークシート上でも同様の関連が見られたことは,子どもの育った文化的風土,社会的環鏡,生育過程の違いとともに,授業における思考過程の違いの傾向性をますます予測させた。
