本研突では、筆者の勤務校において、保護者に養護学校におけるきょうだい支援のニーズを質問紙で調査した。その際、兄弟がいる家庭用と一人っ子の家庭用それぞれに質問紙を作成した。その結果一人っ子の保護者でも養護学校においてきょうだい支援の必要性を感じていること、兄弟のいる家庭の大変さを感じていること、兄弟の大変さと兄弟に対して遺伝するのではないかと言う不安があることがわかった。兄弟がいる家庭の中できょうだい児に何らかの形で負担をかけさせていると保護者が感じていること、障害のある子どもの方に関わる時間がどうしても多くなると感じていることがわかった。兄弟がいる家庭の保護者のニーズとしては、きょうだい児を集めたきょうだい会は養護学校が会場であれば参加させたいと考える保護者が多かった。全体として保護者の支援ニーズは養護学校においてきょうだい児を集めたきょうだい会を開催するよりも、教育相談やきょうだいの抱える問題に関する講演会などの情報の方がニーズとしては高くその傾向はきょうだい児の年齢が高くなると情報を求めるニーズが高くなることがわかった。きょうだい会に参加させるにはきょうだい児が小学生であれば、参加させたいというニーズが高かった。養護学校において、学校行事できょうだい児が関わる場面をもうけてほしい、学校の中で先生に気軽に声をかけてほしい、きょうだい児のことで相談に乗ってほしいという声があり、現在の養護学校の業務の中でそのような点に留意していくことで、直接的ではないけれどもきょうだい児にとっての支援につながっていくことがわかった。
