研究目的:研究代表者が担当する初級日本語の漢字クラスでは、非漢字圏学習者を対象に、総合的な「漢字運用能力の向上」(柳町1999)を目指して、漢字の構成要素・部首・音符等を体系的に学習し、その知識を活用して漢字辞書検索の技術を身に付ける活動を取り入れている。この技能の習得により、学習者は漢字の体系を把握し、来日直後から未習漢字語への対応が可能となる。しかし、現時点では漢字語彙の記憶を測る評価(テスト)が主流で、総合的な漢字運用能力を評価測定する有効な方法がないこが問題点となっている。そこで、漢字の運用に関する能力を広く検討し、これを評価する方法の開発を目指して予備調査を行った。研究方法:1.日常の言語使用場面で学習者が未知の漢字語にどう対応しているか、実態を調査する。具体的には、印刷物、Web、携帯メール、店頭の商品、手書きメモ等の中に未習漢字語を設定し、それを理解することで遂行されるタスクを課す。その際、日常生活に近い環境として、インターネット・携帯電話・辞書が使える状況、他者に尋ねることができる状況等を設定し、その課題遂行過程を詳細に観察する。2.面談と質問紙により課題遂行時の判断過程や困難点について確認する。3.1,2の結果を基に漢字運用能力とその評価項目を抽出する。研究成果:上記の結果、漢字運用能力の主要なものとして、1.記憶している漢字語彙・既知の文字からの類推仮意語、接辞、部首等から)2.電子/紙/携帯電話/PCの辞書検索技術(画数や部首の判断、各種機能の効果的な使用等)3.字体認識力(各種フォント、携帯電話の簡略文字、手書き)4.翻訳サイト/ソフトの使用(その不完全性を補完する能力を含む)5.口頭で他者に尋ねる口頭表現能力、などが抽出された。本研究では、文脈に影響を受けない漢字語の把握を調査の対象としたが、今後、文脈や状況が漢字語の把握にどのように関わるかを含めて幅広く観察し、総合的な漢字運用能力の評価の開発に結びつけていく。
