项目摘要

○研究目的:生物多様性研究の基盤の整備と、絵合わせや検索表の活用を通じて、形質の観察法やその評価など、分類学の作業を生物多様性教育や環境教育として子供に体験させることが重要である。その役割を担う場を提供するため、アジア産食葉性コガネムシ類のヨツバコガネ属を対象に、分類図鑑及び画像分類データベースを作成するための基礎資料を作成する。○研究方法:(1)ヨツバコガネ属全種のタイプ標本を借り出し、種ごとに解剖して比較した分類研究の後、記載文を作成した。(2) 標本全景(背面・側面・腹面)・口器・交尾器の画像を撮影し、種ごとに画像プレートと分布図を作成した。(3) 分類検索表を作成し、プレートと分類資料からなる分類図鑑を作成した。(4) プレートと分類資料を整理し、画像分類データベースの資料とした。○研究成果:分類.検討の結果、ヨツバコガネ属を99種・6亜種に整理した。系統解析の結果により従来から考えられてきたスジコガネ亜科ではなく、カブトムシ亜科に属することが示唆された。また、混乱していた分類を整理し、系統解析の形質から5グループに分類し、グループごとに全ての種への検索表と記載、画像による図版、分布図を作成した。これによりヨツバコガネ属については分類図鑑及び画像分類データベースを作成するための基礎資料ができた。この資料から図鑑とデータベースを作る予定であるが、種ごとに記載、画像による図版、分布図.があるため、絵合わせで検索でき、分類を専門としない各分野の研究者は勿論、教員、児童など専門的予備知識のない者にとっても使用は容易である。英語版の解説を作成したので、今後、分類図鑑及び画像分類データベースでの普及を図ることで、生物多様性教育や環境教育だけでなく、アジアの生物多様性の解明にも貢献できるものと考える。
